The former Sydney woman yesterday opened Launceston shop Vape Trails to help others do the same.
She said there was no better alternative to tobacco cigarettes.
‘‘These seemed to work really well,’’ Miss Tran said.
The jury is out on the health benefits of e-cigarettes, with a recent World Health Organisation report calling for greater regulation of the product.
A government spokesman yesterday said: ‘‘The Department of Health and Human Services is keeping a watching brief on the issue of e-cigarettes and we would urge any groups with concerns to bring them to the government.
‘‘While there are no current plans to extend these laws to include non-nicotine e-cigarettes, the government acknowledges differing medical opinions on the issue and will monitor and assess evidence about their health implications.’’
Liquids containing nicotine are banned in Australia and Miss Tran said the liquids she sold were made from food-grade products by Launceston business BlueBeard Vapes.
The Elizabeth Street shop also offers gifts and jewellery.
‘‘You don’t feel like you’re quitting – it’s more of a habit you’re trying to give up,’’ she said.
